Beginning Again
I'm a little sick. But I'm not foolish enough to think I could work 2 weeks straight with sick kids (and sick grownups) and not catch their cooties. So I've washed hands like I've had OCD, and I've stocked up on cold meds. Go away cold! I don't want you!
I had an unfortunate experience with a dude who got drunk and asked me if I could go home with him. And then wanted to argue with me because I was offended. Because, obviously I had no right to be angry and refuse to serve him, since I was just a lowly bartender. And lowly bartenders deserve harassment, right? Ha. I think not. My regulars thought not, either, as they defended me while I walked away after expressing my anger. That's love. Or bribery... they did leave with next to nil checks tonight. Hmmm. Oh well. I still love my job. I wonder if I will have to yell at men like that when I'm a midwife?
Other than stupid drunk assholes, my day was great. I have a new kid to add to my lengthy list of wards. I ate tons of good Indian food and foiled cranky sick kids with my menacing horns and mad skillz*.
*I do have a knack for making kids laugh at my crazy butt. Hehe. Muhahahahahhahahahaha. I ammmmm the devil.

An Incurable Humanist*
I don't know if this is a phase. I hope not.
*-Loveology, Regina Spektor- my favorite line is: Let's go to the movies, I will hum you a song about nothing at all.

Speaking Parts and Candy Lacrosse
Had breakfast with Em and B this morning. I really, really love that kid. It amazes me how much I miss him when the weekend rolls around. He's growing up so fast. He said "Burble!" and "Lellow!" and "Boo!" today (purple, yellow and blue) and it suddenly occurred to me that I'm not really needed anymore. I was signer Jamie, I taught him how to sign ball and train and about 20 other necessary words. And now he will start speaking for himself. Of course he will love me forever (he better! I'm Aunt Jamie!) and it gives me great pride that I am the one who can make him laugh loudest. I Don't know. I'm rapidly becoming the last one standing; without being in a couple, without the kids that go along with it. And most of the time, I really don't care. This morning, I did.
Later in the afternoon, I got a little J&A time by spending the rest of my day in Baltimore with Alissa. My Bridesmaids in Crime: Kristen and Eliz were there as well... it was fun. Pun-kin carving was the main reason, but as usual, things turned silly and soon we were playing lacrosse with bowls of candy. Hehe.
Tomorrow is a busy day for me. Two new events are happening: volunteering in the afternoon for a local cause and hanging out with YET ANOTHER new family in the evening. I'm excited. I really like the boys so far and am happy to make a little extra cash.
NaBloPoMo to start in 4 days. Can she do it folks????
Back to watching Ugly Betty and learning about US History (probably not at the same time).

Blueeeeeeeeee
I did have an excellent interview with a couple and their two sons (3.5 yrs and 6 mos). I will most likely sit for them once a week for a couple hours.
Still lost about school and this whole bullshit. Waiting until mid November to plan my attack. Which will probably entail me taking three or four science classes over again. Oh joy. I just wish I could take them in 5 week semesters. That would ROCK. But, alas... 5 week classes are only offered in the summer, and you can only take 6 credits at a time (science classes w/ labs are 4 credits).
I'm enjoying my history book, by the way. And feel like maybe I'm not a complete idiot after all (even though nursing programs in MD would make me out to be).
All else is well. I am a little sad, but I notice daily how much happier I am then when Fathead was around, or when I had to deal with the office. Back to jammin to Regina and getting ready for the weekend. I get to carve some pun-kins on Sunday! Wee!

This Thing I Do
You should see the big guns I am getting from my wall push ups (soon to be floor push ups, wee!) and my planks . C'mon abs! Follow suit!

Rejected, Part 2
The AA program at MC accepted 96 people. I am not one of them because the cut off was 3.11 this time; I have a 2.93.
I'm lost and I don't know what to do with my life now. Applying to MC was me accepting that I wasn't good enough for MD. MC was supposed to be the fluff degree that got me into the field.
I have all my pre-requisites done. I have nothing left to do BUT nursing classes. It's useless for me to apply to MC for the fall semester 2008, since any spring classes I may take (which would have to be nothing related to nursing or health) will count in my gpa. MC refuses to give me financial aid anyway, because I have been there for 5 years taking classes part time without a degree. So I can reapply there for Fall and hope that there's more seats and less qualified applicants, wait until Jan 2009 (!!!!!!), or go somewhere else.
How can I go somewhere else??? I haven't taken classes since last fall. I don't have current professors to write loads of reference letters for me while I try to find someone to accept me into their program. I kind of just want to go somewhere else and just start again. I would forgo the 60 credits I have and just do 4 years full time (2 of which being the same shit I've done for the past 8 years). I'll be 33 when I am finally a nurse. Great. Just fucking great.

Cosas Pequenas
Tomorrow's evening entails entertaining a 14 year old. I think Resident Evil 3 may be in the cards. Sigh.
Keeping me from my bed tonight is Ugly Betty. Some of those lines are freaking awesome. Again, those little things keeping me happy!

2.5
I spent quality time with my hippie on Friday (my movie partner had to babysit). She cooked me eggplant parm for lunch, and cornbread with peppers and sauteed spinach and portabellas to go on my salad for dinner. We watched the new movie with Marky Mark: We Own the Night. Not bad at all. On our way out of the movies, we noticed police tape up in the alley beside the garage. 2 hours later when Geo comes home, we find that a kid jumped from the 7th floor of the garage and was decapitated during his fall. Sigh. Hippie and I had went into the movies right before it happened, when they were trying to get him down. Geo also relayed how a coworker had been stabbed along with a guy who works next door on Thursday night. She is good now, he is getting better. Why were they stabbed, you may ask? A dime bag. Over 10 fucking dollars.
I worked all day on Saturday and had my ass handed to me. What should have been a nice busy night turned into a situation where I had no backup and my computer crashed twice. Eh. I made money, but I earned every penny and should have had a couple dollars more for my trouble.
Sunday I went to our Sister Restaurant in Chestertown. Almost a two hour drive and a very slow day make Jamie super tired. I had trouble driving the hour from there to my parents house. I made it safely and hung out with Mom and the kiddies. Eddie is super cute and growing like a weed. My sister seemed well behaved, but not so good at the listening. My 24 year old brother played on a gameboy most of the time I was there (including part of the time at the restaurant), and bitched when he was asked to feed the dog. Dude. You're 24. Your girlfriend and your baby are making your parents house cramped and you're bitching over helping out? I wasn't impressed and I'm terrified that he'll never leave home or that he will try to leave home and see what the real world is like and come back.
Today was a little rough hanging out with Alison. I think its the teeth that are about to make an appearance, but they don't want to yet. There is something about her scream that makes me want to swallow glass. She slept well though... I would be a wreck if she didn't.
Finally, I am 15 days without alcohol and 2.5 lbs lighter than last Monday. Coincidence? Uhhh... I dunno. I do know that this calorie counting shit is hard though.
Oh! And my mom! Is! Getting! Tiny! 50lbs lighter and still going! Goooooo Mom!!!!!

Happy Coming Out!
From HRC:
National Coming Out Day, Oct. 11, 2007, falls on the 20th anniversary of the 1987 Gay and Lesbian March on Washington, and the unfurling of the AIDS Quilt on the National Mall
I remember when the AIDS Quilt was first presented. I was 9 years old and it was a big deal to me. I had just moved from middle of the desert California to middle of nowhere Maryland. A young girl surrounded by rednecks... How did this happen? I had immense sorrow when Ryan White died in 1990. Who didn't?
Looking back, I'm proud of the little girl that took an interest in the community living with HIV/AIDS and as an adult, it makes me want to do more than just give a couple dollars once a year. I think it's high time I brought resolution #6 into the front of the list.

Started off Ok
Otherwise, I did not do anything on the Todo list. I hung out with Em, who was a little bit of a monster today. (when do they start listening?!?!?)

Todo Lists are for the Birds
A recap of my day?
6am Go to bed
10am Alarm goes off
10:01am back to sleep
1pm Get up
2:30pm 3 mile walk (only light jogging, no running yet)
3:30pm watch 2 episodes of Flying Circus
5pm Nap
6pm Get Up
7pm Meet Hippie, Geo and Lila for half priced veggie burgers
9pm Headwait (spend 10 mins entering info into my nutrition tracking site on work comp)
11pm Home, re-enter info into nutrition tracking site (I guess the work comp ate my info?)
12am Finish a very overdue project of Reference Letter Writing
1am Going to watch more Python and go back to bed
So. Let's sum up my day. I ate VERY well (just under my calorie limit, way below fat limit, and 80% of RDA's fulfilled- incl calcium and fiber- woot!), had an hour worth of exercise, finished a looming project, watched Monty Python, and slept for almost half of the day.
Tomorrow I'm with Em, so at most I can sleep is 2 hours during the day. Maybe I should use that time to clean my car. Haha. Just kidding. Maybe Wednesday.
On My Mind
Babies: Em, Eddie, Alison, Teddy, Evan, Stevie
Driving: Mostly fast, slow is ok, too. Long drives are the best
Nature: Running, walking, hiking, swimming, star gazing, daydreaming
I have the very lofty, but do-able plan of having washboard abs by the time I turn 30. I feel like I need a blog button for that. I have about 40 lbs to lose before my muscles will even consider coming out. 40 lbs in 25 weeks is definitely possible. I'm ready to do something that will challenge me but that I will feel brilliant finishing. Even if I don't get the abs, a noticeable change in activity level/pant size will make me feel awesome. After all the crap with school and waiting around because of (mostly) my own foolishness, I just want to be in control of my future again. I've taken pictures of myself in a bikini (the ultimate motivation*) and I have calorie/nutrition counting software up everytime I log onto my computer.
I've read all the reports about depo and how if you're on it for more than 2 years, it can cause bone density loss. So, I am backing away from the depo for 3-6 months. This along with the newfound love of running should help increase bone mass. This may also help the less than solid mass that I like to call my belly... since depo is known to cause weight gains of 5-10 lbs in 70% of women that use it.
I'm not looking forward to bleeding, cramping, bloating, headaches, or malaise inflicted days due to PMS and my menses. I know that my career choice is based on this thing I dislike so much, and I know that I should love this thing that nature has given to me and blah blah blah blah, but I've been period free for many years now. I haven't bought tampons in a looooong time. I only have cramps when I have gas (or eat too much ice cream- thanks loss of lactose tolerance as I approach 30!). I'm seriously rethinking this going off depo thing. To be continued...
I have a huge todo list and other than headwaiting tonight, I don't have to work. So! On my schedule (pronounced in the Queen's English: Sh-ed-wool) for Columbus Day:
- Love thy Car, Wash it, Change it's oil, Fill it up with gas and wiper fluid
- Go through Clothes, Shoes, Books: Giveaway, Trash, Fix and Keep.**
- Clean, Dust, Vacuum, Scrub floors, Laundry
- Budget and pay bills
Can she do it folks? Considering the goal I've made for the next 25 weeks, I would like to say yes. Tune in tomorrow, ya'll***.
*The pics aren't all that bad. I mean I wouldn't have traipsed around Greece (or Brazil) in a bikini if my ass was REALLY HUMONGOUS. Oh, and No, I won't show the pictures until March 27th.
**H&B have Tim Gunn's new show on dvr and I watched the 1st two episodes while Em slept. I kinda love it.
***Shout out for Britney. Poor little rich girl.
